Higher cost of living

ludimila

Dear all, how are you? I have been offered a job to be a Head Teacher in an International School in Qatar. For me that sounds pretty AMAZING as I'm a fan of middle eastern people, culture and food :D
While I was being interviewed a question arose: how much are willing to get paid for this position? I answered a shy "I have no idea". I have never been to the middle east and I'm not sure about the life costs in Qatar. I researched a bit but it made me more confused. I don't want to leave my beloved Brazil to struggle financially abroad.... I have a pretty decent life here and I wanna make sure I can keep up with the standards. Also, for me to leave a company I currently work, it would have to be because a better job offer arose and I'm not sure this is the case?
I'm married and we have a child. My husband works with the Brazilian stock market, he is a trader and I'm pretty sure it would be difficult for him to operate from Qatar hence the time change (6h difference from Brazil) but he is ok with working with something else there or staying home, cooking, cleaning, managing our household. So let's consider I'll be the only one making an income there in Qatar.
Here in Brazil we have weekend outings to movies, theater plays, parks, museums, amusement parks, restaurants and such. We travel once a month during big weekends. We own a nice SUV and a nice apartment, in a nice neighbourhood.
I really would love to take this opportunity for professional and personal growth but I don't know how much of salary I should try and negotiate? I know housing will be provided (although I'll have to buy furniture), health insurance will be provided and a 75% discount for my son's school tuition (here in Brazil I don't have to pay a dime for his education).  They said nothing about transportation and they mentioned something around 1k allowance for moving. How much should I try to negotiate considering the above? Is U$35k/year enough for keeping the same lifestyle I have in Brazil?
Thanks a lot, I appreciate any thoughts, suggestions!

sounds from what you've mentioned that you're enjoying much better life than here in Qatar. To live the same standard as in Brazil you need a minimum of $ 10k including rent, car instalment and living.
