Information on Las Terrenas - where to meet expats? by Dragonsden
Hello All, I just found this forum and would like some help if it is available. I will be in LT starting tomorrow for about a week. I was hoping there is a hang out or a place I can go to meet with other Ex Pats who have made the move. I would ...

Funny you ask. My friends who retired and moved here to a gated apartment complex have had more break-ins in the last few months than others who live in the barrio. It's always the security guards. On the other hand, some friends who lived in ... Read More

I would say that the petty theft here is something to manage, and certainly not a deal killer. Others who have been victimized will have a different view. I've had some things stolen, but no big deal. As for the cops, if you resent getting ... Read More

Haha, that's not a simple question to answer. It depends on your personal situation. Here in Las Terrenas, we have a growing group of North American expats. All are excited to be here, and are a fun group to hang with. As far as deep ... Read More

I agree with what Bob says. I retired here in July 2014 on a modest income, and it was the best choice of my life. I love it here, and admittedly got extremely lucky. You can connect with me on Facebook on our page "Dan and Manty's ... Read More

Hi all, I'm Dan from Missouri. I retired in 7/14 on an accelerated schedule, because I had a miserable, boring life. I started in Sosua, but found that for me, the reasons it was a fun place for vacations made it a poor choice for living. I ... Read More

airport/El Catey/Samana? by thecolonel
I arrive there late night, and apparently the taxi mafia tries to charge $60 just to Last Terrenas. Has any waited in the airport till morning when they could catch a guagua/chicken bus?

My friend arrived Sunday night and found that everyone on the plane had transfer arrangements, so was shut out of any ride sharing. He ended up getting a taxi to a hotel a mile away that charges 1200 pesos a night, so he could wait for the ... Read More

I have been working this problem pretty hard recently. During the day, you can hail a gua gua to LT on the highway. The best option for late night is to make a sign. Show it in the boarding area, on the plane, and in the arrival area. Someone will ... Read More
