Ele_BahirDar

Hi,
I am since 3 months in Ethiopia and I was considering to import a car. Could someone tell me exactly how much is the duty and how the whole procedure works? Thank you

Hello Ele_BahirDar.

Welcome to ²ÝÁñÉçÇø! :)

For more visibility, a new thread has been created from your message on the Addis Ababa forum.

From which country you would like to import the car?

Thank you,

Another web site [link moderated]

has the following info on current tax rates:

Motor vehicles for the transport of goods

Duty Rate: 10%
Excise Tax: 0%
VAT: 15%
Sur Tax: 0%
Withholding tax: 3%

which is the lowest rate!! Question is what kind of vehicle qualifies as a "motor vehicle for the transport of goods". For instance do the double-cab style vehicles qualify e.g. Toyota Hilux, or Tundra, or a VW Amorak?

Anyone had any experience on this? The vehicle will be used by a licensed registered medical clinic, I understand that "ambulances" are tax free, but again, how is an ambulance defined? More than a light and siren on the top of it presumably?
