IP Address - Daughter in danger!

Hi - Is there a way to trace an IP address in Africa to a particular city. I know my daughter is in Kenya but I don't for certain know the city. However, she sent me an email so I do have the IP address. In the US there we have IP tracer software. Is there something similar in Kenya? I would appreciate any idea or suggestion you may have.

You can do a whois lookup using the internet to see which provider does that IP belong to..

Also, it is not necessary that the IP address that you have with you belongs to your daughters computer. The internet service providers use some other IP address to the external world, when they sent out the traffic.

It will be great if you can identify the service provider there, and get in touch with them... Or you go to the mail provider with a proper police complaint, then they can help you in tracing the source of the e-mail.

Yes you can do a whois lookup but most likely you will end up getting the location of the Internet Service Provider rather than the actual address of your daughter

Yes.. That can help him.. If he locate the provider, he can contact them and try to find out the exact location or some details which may help him to locate the area.

its really very difficult to trace someone with IP, it only happen with internal security team of kenya. You can contact them and try to explain your problem. They might help you.
