South Africa expats

rob6367

We are considering relocating to Mauritius and I am trying to ascertain how many South African expats currently permanently reside in Mauritius and where the biggest communities of South African are concentrated.

@rob6367 hello :) I think both the north and west coasts are home to a big South African community :)

Not sure of the exact number of expat South Africans currently permanently residing in Mauritius but am aware that it is the second biggest group of expats after the French .

Definitely concentrated around Tamarin/Black River/Flic en Flac in the West and Grand Baie/Pereybere/Mon Choisy etc.. in the North.

@bernardwiehe totally agree with location of SA expats. We are from Cape Town and live in Flic en Flac. The private school behind Cascavelle is an indication of hou many households with school going kids from SA live in this area.

A few years ago it was estimated that there were 5000+ South Africans in Mauritius. That number might have grown in the mean time.

Good day, daar is BAIE van ons hier!!!! We are loving it here. We live in the West, Black River area, where plenty of the SA expats live. Making friend here is quite easy and there are many expat social media groups. Depending on your family (if you have children and where you would like them to school, and the system you would prefer them to study on. My daughter is in Le Bocage, which is in the centre of the the Island - the transport system is super and very safe).

The North of the Island has more night life and lots of SA expats, so both amazing.

I you are considering buying a vehicle here, ensure stock is available, the waiting period on new vehicles can be lengthily and renting a vehicle here is very expensive.

My suggestion is to take a vacation - come and visit the Island and then make your decision.

You can WhatsApp *** me is you need some info, we are also quite new to the Island.

@rob6367 Hi, there are loads of South Africans in Mauritius - mostly concentrated in the South West (Tamarin) and the North (Grand Bay area). I've recently arrived on the island (2 June) so am pretty new but have already met lots of South Africans on the beach who live in my area.
