Safety in Nigeria

Kevin.Pollitt

I am currently looking for a change in jobs, I am employed in Oil & Gas Construction in Doha, Qatar at the moment in HSSE.

There is a possibility of a job offer in Nigeria. Both my wife and myself are interested in the job, however people are telling us that it is not safe.

Can anyone please let us know how things are over there?

Is is safe?

Thanks for your help guys, look forward to hearing your comments.

Hi KEvin!

Did you push through your plan? I also have an offer in Nigeria and that is also my concern.

For those who can enlighten us on this matter, we appreciate it.

Thanks..

Nigeria is not as bad as many people think.

We have other countries that are lot worse than Nigeria, however you just need to ensure your own safety and  be careful to trust anybody.

You may need to get like mind people in business from another country that joined Nigeriabusinessclub.com.

I think the club might be useful for you. Also is LinkedIn.com. Check th group This group is for ²ÝÁñÉçÇøriate Jobs in Nigeria.

I hope you will be okay with your concern.

They(media and the clueless) do try to make it sound more dangerous than it is actually. And I agree with Leo. Truth is, we have plenty of expats in Nigeria and if you don't take any excessive risks with your safety, you will be just fine. Stay within VI or other quiet suburbs and don't stay out too late or if you do wait till about 5am to start making your way back.

You can learn more on my website,

Hope this helps.

Security in Abuja is higher than anywhere else in Nigeria.
I was there recently and took the following pictures.

Abuja has highest level of security than any other states in Nigeria.

You have access to all facilities that you are looking for.

Just like any other place, when you are visiting a new place, ensure that you have someone trust able or dependable. Don't rely on new friends immediately, otherwise you may get disappointed.

Observe and Look out very well.( that is the key)

For starters, you are better off with a trusted workmate. Truth be told nobody is safe, you just dont make the number/census in the news.
Try not to keep late nights and if you do be in company of other trusted friends........note my emphasis on trust!

when hanging out, dont get invovled in anything that leads to giving out personal information on residence/income etc. Always pay close attention to your mobile phones/cards/wallet. I guess you'd be pretty much safe anywhere in nigeria.

I have a job offer from a company located at Awe, Oyo state, Nigeria. Can somebody tell me  how the place is. Which the nearest town where one can stay with family of four. How are other facilities. The company has offered to provide me Furnished House, Driver driven car, Free Medical Facilities and $ 4000/ month. How do you find the offer.

nigerleo

Awe is a very small town, very peaceful and with less population. The nearest town to Awe is Oyo Town. Oyo town is actually the best place for you to live. Both towns are very peaceful and good.

You may not be surprise that you can count the number of expatriate in the town.

As per facilities, there are good schools in Oyo town and about 2 or three social places to go with family. Ibadan, which is the capital of Oyo State is about 20 minutes drive from Oyo Town. You may decide to take your family for outing there as well.

If you need more information I will be glad to assist.

I will advice you to go to Awe first, before thinking of finally relocating your family to that place.. Awe and Oyo state in general is a bit safer for anyone especially the expertiate.
