kicked out of a Taxi

Yesterday I thought I would try and take a Taxi. I jumped into one and showed him on the map where I wanted to go. He nodded that he knew and we were off聟 I realized he was taking me on the 3rd Ring Road and it was bumper to bumper with traffic. I tried to tell him I wanted him to use another road by pointing on my map and running my finger on the road he should use and saying 聯yes聰, and 3rd Ring Road and saying 聯no聰. Granted I must have looked crazy聟

He then took the next exit and stopped on the side of the road. I looked around really confused and indicated for him to drive straight聟. That聮s when he went crazy and started shouting at me. I was in shock and just looked at him. When he stopped and it looked clear to me he wanted me to get out, I did.

Then he got out too and shouted at me聟.there I was in the busy streets having this Taxi driver shouting at me in a language I didn聮t understand and having passerbys looking at us!
He wanted me to pay him.
I was nowhere near where I wanted to go!
I demanded, by walking to the driver seat and pointing inside the car, that I wanted my receipt before I paid him.

I got it and walked off mad and angry that this had happened to me. Did I really deserve to be shouted at? Or treated in that way?
If I did something wrong please let me know what it is, because I really don聮t want to make the same mistake again, I have only been here 1 week and still have a long time left, and I need to find the strength to get back into another Taxi by myself聟.soon.

As one Chises person, i guided a foreign friend in Nanning. The taxi driver thought we were not familiar with this city and tried to go around the place where we wanted to go. I found his behavior and asked him to go the right way but the had changed the direction.I argued with him,but still had to pay.Damn it!

As a rule taxi drivers do not like to be told their job. There were a few times I gave them drections when they clearly did not know where they were going. But when there is traffic it's hard to say whether or not it's better to take a side road and/or give directions. Many times streets are not "through" streets or go only one direction and it may have been impossible for him to explain it to you because of the language barrier.
I understand how frustrating it can be though. Just remember, patience and a smile goes a long way.

In Yiwu we grabbed a Taxi with our 2 young boys and Chinese friend. He was smoking in a closed taxi. I told our friend to ask him to stop the smoking while we lowered the rear windows, and get a rave via our Chinese friend about how rude foreigners are, We are very polite and hate rude foreigners also - 99% of TAXIS in Australia are driven by foreigners - many rude ! My wife wanted to get out. We have never caught a TAXI in China without giving good tips and have found 80% of drivers are A. able to drive & B. Polite.
So in general TAXI drivers in China are OK But seem oblivious of kids safety and health (as far as driving dangerously and smoking)

Good to see even Chinese people have problems. Now i dont feel so bad...thank you for sharing this with us.

I totally never thought of this. I was so busy thinking about me trying to tell him something, i never thought the same problem could be reversed... Thank you. and i must comment and say, i am smiling alot more, so it can be known i come in peace!
