Need Advice. Moving to Beijing with kids!

danapoint

My name is Josh and I will be moving to Beijing with three kids, two of which will be in school.  I am considering living in Shunyi but I will be working in Haidian.  Would it be better to live in Chaoyang Park area?  The schools seem to be either in Chaoyang or Shunyi, that's why we are considering living there.  I am not terribly afriad of a long commute as I will have a driver and can do some work while commuting.  If anyone can give advice for housing and schools I would appreciate it.  We will also be bringing our dog who is far bigger than 35cm.

Hi Josh,

Welcome to ²ÝÁñÉçÇø! :)

Danapoint - LOL, you answered your own question :)

If your dog is "well over 35cm" an intelligent decision would be to obey the local law and have the dog (and you) live outside the 5th Ring Road. In other words you need to consider the Shunyi / Chaoyang Villa Districts option.

So maybe your next focus should be to see which school suits your kids' neeeds and has availability.

The two pet relocation companies have told me that the law stipulates living outside of the fourth ring.  Is that true or is it the fifth ring?  Either way is it a better commute to haidian from shunyi or chaoyang?

Manlin

Neither is strctly true. According to the info on the ICVS website the definition is    Size Restrictions on Dogs and Registering Multiple Dogs: •Dogs registered within the 8 major districts of Beijing Municipality (e.g., Chaoyang, Dongcheng, Xicheng, Chongwen, Xuanwu, Haidian, Fengtai, and Shijingshan) must not be taller than 35-cm from the ground to shoulder.

•Only one dog may be registered per household address. If you own multiple dogs, you will need a second household address to register the second dog.

The Chaoyang District jurisdiction continues well into the area that we foreigners often refer to as Shunyi.

I am a dog owner and moved from outside the 4th Ring to outside the 5th Ring Road a few years back because a dog culling was on-going in our compound.

hi, i don't think it is a good idea to live at Chaoyang Park area. it is too far from shunyi and haidian. the local traffic is heavy.  it might takes you 2 hours drive.

Thank you.  We actually decided to live in a community called Beijing riviera since the kids will go to WAB.  Thank you for your reply!

Manlin

I'm sure you will enjoy Beijing Riviera. It is one of the compounds with the strongest sense of community.

hope so.  i want to get a golf cart for the community but I cant seem to find one on the net.  are they rare there?  or even legal?
