In my opinion, you don't need to worry too much about the safety.

Chinese are generally nice people. For sure there are always some black sheep in any countries.

A popular scam is that someone pretending policemen phone you saying your bank account has been used for money laundering and requesting to transfer your money to a temporary "safe account". I am sure you are smart enough to protect yourself. 

Other unethical misconducts such as over charging foreigners are quite common too.

Raja, thats very good advice! I am too much of a over thinker if you know what I mean.. But I here nothing but nice things about the place so I do need to stop thinking so much :0)

Siyula, consider that basically you don't have much of a problem of gun crimes in Guangzhou. And you don't have many holdups.

So except being spat on your beautifully manicured toes, or your IPHONE left on a restaurant table, you don't seem to have much to worry about in Guangzhou when it comes to safety.

When an American told me what its like in his town near Sacramento, i was like, "Thank god I'm from Hong Kong".

i actually read somewhere that Guangzhou was one of the most dangerous cities in china....The same place i read about the crime in the states and compared the numbers..It turned out that Guangzhou would have been one of the safest cities in the states calculated on population density....So no..i dont think you have anything to worry about

EXACTLY !!!

Guangzhou may not be the most beautiful city in China. But safety is nothing you have to worry about.
