Hi,

To be able to move in Laos, a lot of expatriates think of buying a car, whether new or second-hand.

What are the formalities to buy a vehicle in Laos: car registration, insurance, etc.?

What are the relevant authorities or organizations to contact?

How long does it take and what are the associated costs?

I used to buy a small new car in Pakse. Although I have Working Permit and Visa but I could not register by my name. My Lao friend helped me to register by their name and we make a contract between them and us for this car. I am not sure now any update or upgrade for the transportation law in Laos?

I've been living in Lao for almost 4 years and bought a new car soon after arriving. I will be leaving for the Philippines in June, so the car needs to be sold. It is a Chinese SUV called a Jonway. It has a 1.8 litre Mitsubishi engine and has been a great car on Lao roads. I have a post on FB with photos. Tax paid and available immediately if required. Under 30,000km. Excellent condition. Asking $12,000 ono.
