Not justifying them, but they are afraid and in over their heads.

There, but for the grace of God. Hope we are never in the situation.

Agreed mugtech:

The Olympic Games were only ever cancelled in 1916, 1940 and 1944 due to World War I and World War II. No other OlympicGames have ever been completely canceled, so a complete cancellation in 2020 would be a major development.

You just don't postpone/cancel something on the size and scale of the Olympics. There's so many moving parts, so many countries and different seasons, and competitive seasons, and television seasons.

Cheers

We are scheduled to sail from Vancouver to Tokyo to Singapore in September, wondering what things will be like by then.聽 Royal Caribbean cancelled their current Asian cruises and it looks like the ship which was scheduled to make 3 stops in the Philippines in March of 2021 is being rescheduled, several of the cruises out of Singapore were already cancelled, no indication of where the ship will go.聽 RCI has a new Oasis class ship, 5,600 passengers, ticketed for Asia coming out of the shipyard in 2021.聽 Lot of fear out there, cruisers cancelling Mediterranean cruises this spring because of the reports from Italy of CV.聽 Looks like plenty of deals available on Wall Street and the cruise lines.

pnwcyclist

At this point I wouldn't get on a cruise ship if you paid me. Every indication I have seen from authorities is that a vaccine is "many months away" and I can't see this just dying out like SARS did. It will still be out there because is too contagious, without noticeable symptoms. Of course by then perhaps we will all have had it.

I think I would rather have coronavirus than the vaccine.

Taking a 16 hour flight from Manila to JFK in NY in April, glad it is a direct flight, probably more of a confined dangerous area than a ship, but the cruise is for 25 days, lots of washy washy happy happy required.

Influenza (鈥渢he flu鈥) vs COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus, are both infectious respiratory illnesses. Although the symptoms of COVID-19 and the flu can look similar, the two illnesses are caused by different viruses.

As of Feb. 26, 2020, the flu is showing much more of an impact than COVID-19
***COVID-19 might be spread through the airborne route = does that not mean that life goes on as usual with the necessary precautions mentioned???

Well that is a surprise, that

*聽 聽 聽 "As of Feb. 26, 2020, the flu is showing much more of an impact on Americans than COVID-19. You can find up-to-date information on COVID-19 at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)."

Yep the full sentence always helps put things in context.聽 Especially when more than 5 million Americans have the flu, and only 60 have the COVID 19, of course more people will die from the flu.

Agreed =

Flu is dispersed throughout the population. coronavirus is highly limited in scope at this point in time.

Right now the mortality rate for coronavirus is 2%.

For flu it is .1 or 1/20th of coronavirus.

To give you an idea of what this means and why governments are crapping their pants over coronavirus, Influenza kills 600,000 people per year worldwide.

Coronavirus will kill 12,000,000 once it is as common as flu.

And it seems to be highly variable killing at much higher rates in certain populations.

Still too early to know for certain though. Cornavirus may actually already be widely dispersed, which means the mortality rate is actually a lot lower than 2%.

All that being said, I am not worried about coronavirus at all. Not even a little.

It is society's reaction that I want to stay ahead of.

Agreed : Thwarting emotions is not good for mental or physical health. It鈥檚 like pressing on the gas and brakes of your car at the same time, creating an internal pressure cooker.

Poor Animals/Pets suffer too :

Agreed they have it rough!

There will be a 10,000 Hong Kong dollars ($1,282) cash handout to residents to help boost the city's flagging economy by around 1%, The handout is part of a package of measures worth 120 billion Hong Kong dollars that the government has planned to support the economy, which has been dragged down by pro-democracy protests and the new coronavirus outbreak. Some economists warned the cash handout may not help the economy much because people could save instead of spend that money. (which I think the majority will)

This is similar to whats going on in Singapore (excluding any pro democracy protests)

Have a good one

Just heard a report my wife's Facebook friend from Canada sent to her.聽 The guy claims there have been already more than 50,000 deaths in China from CV, that the crematoriums are working 24/7 to get rid of the bodies.聽 This guy is predicting 60% of the people on this planet will be infected, millions of deaths.聽 No proof, just speculation.

NEWS /CHINA :
China virus funeral order fuels upset as death toll rises... (*nothing stated on exact numbers)
Experts say order that all victims be cremated quickly *without a funeral is unnecessary and adds to families' grief.
Sichuan, China - Orders issued by China's top health authority for the swift cremation of the remains of coronavirus victims at facilities near the hospitals where they died appear to be an overreaction and unnecessary to curb the transmission of the disease, top epidemiologists have said.
Notice from the country's National Health Commission requires hospitals to notify funeral parlours of the death along with family members, but also states the procedure *can be completed even if the family of the deceased does not agree!

Indeed its worrying..but best to watch /monitor & not speculate!

:/

Rappler put out that 50000 deaths in China along with a couple of other postings that seem a little far fetched or at least i hope so! i'm looking for it now and i will post it if i find it

What I warned of earlier is happening with little provocation.

We need to prepare now while we can. Not because of the virus, but because most people over react at the last moment. They panic and clear out the store shelves.

Panic buying strips store shelves as people stockpile amid coronavirus outbreak with one woman turning her basement into a 'supermarket' and a man buying a YEAR'S supply of food which includes 192 tins of SPAM

聽 聽 Supermarket shelves are starting to be stripped bare as Americans prepare for the spread of coronavirus
聽 聽 People have been panic buying items ever since health authorities warned that Americans should start preparing for domestic acceleration of the virus
聽 聽 Supplies have been flying off the shelves with people posting photos on social media showing the lack of products available in some stores and pharmacies
聽 聽 In California, some Walgreens stores had been completely depleted of cough medicines, cold and flue medications, vaporizers, masks and thermometers
聽 聽 Shoppers in Hawaii were buying up flatbeds of canned goods, bottled water, toilet paper and paper towels from a local Costo
聽 聽 A supermarket aisle in Virginia had been stripped of non-perishables like pasta

Do not buy what you cannot eat over time without it going to waster. This is called rotation. A lot of people buy a bunch of crap that ends up going to waste. Don''t do that.

the panic you were warned about is starting in Indonesia

I would not panic over masks. There is so much contradictory information from definitive sources as to whether they protect you or put you even more at risk.

manwonder

Agreed : Mask or No Mask :
You're not protecting anybody, including yourself, by freaking out!

But try explain the reason people here keep 'spitting' in public areas & right in yr face..thats freaking me out!!!

lasvegan

I notice that also! Lots of sneezing and no effort to cover at all! I seen a guy at Puregold slicing fish and he coughed in his hand and picked up a knife and started cutting!

manwonder

A spitter once told me when I approached him...that he found it disgusting that people actually swallow their phlegm instead of spitting it out...can you believe that?

I am guilty of spitting, but I am conscientious of where I spit. Usually i try to target smokers.

I am an ex smoker and public smoking mainly on public transport bothers me. Even more when my daughter is with me. I handle it in various ways. Sometimes I politely ask them to stop. A couple of times I faked a heart attack. One time I asked a man to stop and he got an attitude. That was in one of our frequent eating places. The next day he got a visit from some people from the mayor's smoke free task force. Don't know how that happened.

Don't do that in Singapore.
