Cost of living in Manila

Adyyy

Is 20k Ph peso enough to live comfortably in Makati city?

I am from India and I have received an offer of 50k in Makati city.

- salary 50k per month
- I wish to save around 30k per month.
- accommodation is provided by the company which is near the company.
- I am single.

If I can't save 30k, then how much can I save maximum?

How much is the tax deduced from 50k? Also please let me know if there are any major expenses that I have to incur.

Any help much appreciated! Thanks in advance 😊

Hi Adyy,

At 50k gross per month (600k annual), your tax would be 25% in excess of 400k + 30k, or approximately 80k annually plus/minus other items in computation of your individual income tax.

The answer to your first question will depends on the kind of your life style hence 20k per month living allowance may or may not be enough to live comfortably in Makati area. Bear in mind that Makati is a central business district, expect everything as 3 times more of the usual cost. Anyhow, since accommodation is already provide (which is a big chunk of your expenses) and its nearby (yay! you'll save on gas/transpo), that means next big expenses is your food consumption followed by mobile/data subscription then set aside something for your hangout and shopping spree. Shopping malls in Makati can be really tempting and will definitely test your urge.

"If I can't save 30k, then how much can I save maximum?" - the answer will really depends on your "cost-discipline" and your needs.

In summary, i think it is still workable depending on your concept of "comfort".

When are you moving to Makati? Add me and let's keep in touch. All the best!

Great answers Voyager, it depends on the lifestyle you choose to live and what your aims and ideals are. For us our budget to live a comfortable life in the province (western influence) is 70 K per month, own our home and transport, no loans so just day to day living but,,,,,,, that is our budget. Many Filipinos live a reasonably comfortable life on 10 to 20K, still have smart phones, computers, internet etc. Mostly depends on their accomodation arrangements.

Could I suggest you visit "Numbeo.com" to get a rough idea of cost comparisons as well as further reading on this site and well as our best friend google. Good luck and hope it works out for you and you save your Pesos.

Cheers, Steve.
