Try Belly's  on Phan Chu Trinh street. Full of expats, but take information with a grain of salt as most of the expats are bar-flys. Talk to Belly or Luyen the owners, you will get reasonable advice from them.

Don't get caught up in the expat bar scene, all they seem to do is bitch and fight among themselves.

Vung Tau is actually relatively small, so you won't need to go out of your way unless you're staying on the outskirts of town for some reason.

Phan Chu Trinh St., where Belly's is located has a number of pub/ restaurants as well as accommodation. Taj Grill is there for Indian food.

Some other popular places are the Cask Bar (Quiz Night), Matilda's and Bistro 9.

Yeah...why can't we all get along?

Thanks for that, this also gives us an idea where to book our first few nights accomodation, as we did not go there on our trip in 2013 we have no idea apart from looking at maps where things are. Cheers Annie Daz

Yes, over the years Vũng Tàu has become a favourite spot for elderly gentlemen to enjoy their golden years of retirement by sampling a wide variety of ales, lagers, stouts, liquors and spirits as well as fine tobaccos in a quiet sunny tropical locale.

As a result, a large number of drinking establishments have sprung up, which they heartily patronise on a nearly nightly basis. However, although these pensioners/retirees compose the majority of the expat community in VT, there are many other types of people living here these days.

Vũng Tàu's other claim to fame is as "Sài Gòn's Beach", since it is only about 2 hours from the famed metropolis, and the much-loved Saigonese arrived most every weekend and long holiday to bring their joyful, fun-filled lively atmosphere to this normally sedate seaside resort city.

In anticipation of an increase in the number of visitors, many much-needed high-rise condos and luxury hotels are being built, which certainly enhance the skyline and improve everyone's view of the sea.
