Ah ha....... The 1st taste of Vietnamese culture.

1 more thing that I detest. Those people, especially females will bring along their kids to sell lottery or whatnot. Then those foreigners might see that her kid is so poor thing & they'll buy. The worst part is some do the selling at night.

Come on.....

I am a piece of meat....it's the human condition. Just flow with it. The lottery people....they might be feeling something like....here's another "wanna get rich quick" idiot willing to part with his/her money.....and right now I need to feed my kids, pay the rent,.....or maybe it's the only way they can turn a buck until they can secure a job cleaning rooms after some foreign slob. Yea...I'm a piece of meat...just bring along the garlic. Remember Frank Zappa's "call me any vegetable"? I'd rather be a piece of meat and flow with it than a vegetable back in the land of "opportunity." Love ya'll.

I believe we cant change many things in this country.
what I've noticed - they sell things this way to local guys also. not only foreigners suffer) that's how it works

Even if it can be really irritative. We only have to smile and take it easy!

There are many things that are different from our ex-pat way of life.  To my mind this is what makes Viet Nam so special. I would not want the people to change their lifestyle, it is their country and their right. In many ways I think we have a lot to learn.  I would suggest looking beyond the surface and really take note of what makes this country tick.

If that was directed at me, then sorry, you're wrong.  I, in fact, do know people selling loto tickets are not "probably" poor, they ARE poor.  Selling lottery tickets is a program by the national government set up to give jobs to low income and/or disabled citizens (includes war invalids).  I am not ignorant of this fact.

Thats news to me today, didnt know about it. Thanks for the insight.

My original post which has strayed off course, is simply this...you catch more flies with sugar than with vinegar.

Treat me with respect and allow me to be of clear mind and I will treat you with respect in kind.  The lottery ticket seller is just an example.

Maybe after my brain is satisfied that I won't be stranded on the road pushing my motorbike because I ran out of gas, I would be like...Oh hey, how are you?  Wonderful day isn't it?  What's that?  You're selling lottery tickets?  Oh sure...let me have a look?

Totally agreed with King Cero. Thanks to your understanding of what the poor has to suffer, to move their tired, hungry body a long way around selling those tickets for just a very little sum of money to feed themselves and their poor families it they are lucky enough. A lot of them are so old to do any other job, they rather sell lottery tickets rather than being a beggar. You should at least respect them.

muontrovevietnam, as I found out about you and your nick name saying that you wanna come, say back to Vietnam to find something belonging to your Vietnam blood. I think you made the wrong choice as per your opening this type of topic with ignorant words against those poor Vietnamese people trying to do a humble job.
As I said above, what do you expect those poor people to do? to have waited for your satisfaction then wasted their time on their long tired way making a living.
Or you'd rather be robbed at gun point or sharp knife point by those poor.
