You can often find them in the Colonial Zone.......

zona colonial is my favorite place in the capital. it has the feel of europe.聽 that is where i also figured as a likely place for expatriots to hang out.聽 but i was hoping to get data on some specific place in the zona colonial where actual expatriots and not just temporary visitors would congregate..

I think you will find most of the "gringo" in the zona Colonial are tourists or in for short visits.

There are several聽 cafe's on the Conde, that is where you will find them.

I found more local Dominicans at the cafes than 草榴社区s but great atmosphere.

Yes topics some times wander and we try to get them back on tract but many times the side discussions can be interesting as聽 well.

don't live in Santo Domingo but I visit a lot.聽 If you want we can work out a meeting next time I go down there and talk about DR things.聽 FYI, I will likely be bringing my wife who doesn't speak any English but she is good flying solo so it won't bother her if it doesn't bother you.聽 Somewhere in the Colonial Zone is probably a good place to meet, however if you prefer something different I am usually in the Bella Vista or Naco areas when I head down.

sure. why not?聽 i have great respect for intelligent people like you seem to be. your reply to my topical question was meticulously stunning.聽 i live pretty close to acropolis mall on avenida winston churchill.聽 naco is a good place to meet.聽 and i wouldn't mind colonial zone which is my favorite place (although i hardly go there); if you know your way around the colonial zone than that would be my first choice for a meeting place.聽 my almost daily hang out is la sirena on winston churchill just across the street from blue mall (which i stay away from because it's too upper class). and there is no need for your wife to remain silent if we get together- i basically use spanish throughout the day.

Cool.聽 I'll PM you next time I'm down.聽 I have no idea when it will be.聽 Its usually not planned too much in advance.聽 Sometimes we go several months without a trip and sometimes we do it about once a month.聽 We are heading to the States & Mexico at the end of the year for a long vacation so I do doubt we will be down before next year.

Is it not funny you live on a Caribbean island, in a resort/vacation area and you leave to go on vacation.聽 People are always asking us why we need a vacation if we live here.聽 Duh...they don't get it.聽 We leave next week for a vacation as well.

Actually, I was done with the trips back to the States.聽 I said the only thing that would bring me back was a family event or if my team was playing for the national title again.聽 There are some other places I'd like to visit outside of the DR, but I have travelled the States already and going back there is not high on my list.聽 But this one is for my wife.聽 There are some places she has never seen that she wants to see.聽 Getting her visa was a pain but now she has 10 years unlimited entry.

Congrats on the Visa they are next to impossible to get.
