Employment and new work practices in Panama

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

In diverse sectors, employment in Panama has been tremendously affected by the current crisis.
We invite you to share your experience on these changes in the professional world in Panama.

Did new work practices emerge over the last few months?

Is working from home becoming the new normal or is it still marginal?

What about recruitment in companies located in Panama?

Were there new laws passed regarding work? If so, what were the consequences on the labour market?

Finally, what is your personal experience on that matter and on your own job specifically?

Thank you for your contribution!

PPI Panama

We own Pan Pacific Interiors Corp. a design and manufacturing company specializing in luxury cabinets and stone countertops, we are located in David, Panama. This year we expanded, adding a large new interactive showroom and now also sell vinyl plank flooring, sinks, faucets and appliances. In hindsight it may not have been the best year to expand...
We are starting to ramp back up in sales and we are still down about 20% overall. We have taken a new approach to our marketing and we are also working in an online coaching group to support us in getting things back on track.
We have weathered the storm and we are thankful for that, we know many did not.
All that being said, I see a very promising 2021 ahead for Panama. I feel the government here made difficult choices over the past several months that supported the country in not going through what many counties did and even are again with phase 2 lockdowns being reported by many countries.
As a family we moved to Panama in 2012 and started our business in 2014. We love the country, the people and of course the weather, it is home to us.
2021 will be amazing and Panama will be the place to be!

Dear PPI Panama,

After my wife and I relocate/move to PanamaI will be looking for a computer desk. I will prefer a half size Armoire about 55" tall x 40" wide side to side x 22" deep front to back.

With a strong keyboard that is positioned at the height of the Armoire at 29 1/2" and will pull out that will fit a computer keyboard and mouse 29" wide side to side x 10" deep front to back.

Above the pullout keyboard tray there needs to be a large shelf to hold a computer monitor height 22" x 29" wide side to side x 19" deep.

Under the keyboard tray there needs to be a shelf to hold a printer. The shelf needs to be 14 1/2" deep front to back x 20" wide side to side with a top clearance area of 15" so that the printer can be opened up to change print cartridges.  The keyboard tray can be built into the Armoire.

To the right side some drawer would be good.  With two doors that can be closed when not in use.

Thanks

PPI - you're in the Swiss Plaza? I'll have to stop by there sometime and say hello.
After everything that has gone on here, it seems to me that 20% down isn't half bad, and best wishes on a speedy recovery and great year ahead.
Yes, we are also SO thankful to be in Panama. It's been hard but (knock on wood) it is paying off with stable and declining virus cases.
Take care
