Generators
Karenqc wrote:Specs state it will run a fridge for 24 hours on a daily charge, I don't know where you got your information, it wasn't from the stats on their webpage.
If anyone else knows where I can find something like this unit, please comment, this is what WE want and NEED for our particular circumstances.
I understand that you would like a unit like that given that you can't have loud generators. But, and I have this from the specs, after the battery is empty (let's say 24 hours powering your fridge) you need to charge it. That's (again according to the specs) 25(!) hours on AC (which you don't have after a storm) or 4-9 hours on solar (based on max. input, that would mean 6 Boulder 100 panels - $ 1800 and a lot of sun) . Now, after a storm the sun is scarce for a couple of days so that's going to be problematic. Also, while charging you can't use the unit so you would need a second unit.
Your total cost would be 2x $1,300 for a two Yeti 1000 Lithium units and $1,800 for 6 Boulder 100 panels. That's $4,400. You would need 4-9 hours of sun daily to charge your two units.
To me that sounds like a lot of money to keep 1 fridge running plus that you need the sun to keep up and running.
For that money you could buy a nice quiet LP generator that would power your whole place including A/C...

Looks nice but I don't know the brand.

You could be right - it is more quiet than my old Coleman 5 kW with Tecumseh engine. My daughter an SIL have that one now.
Still, like any gas generator, except the very expensive quiet Honda and other brands inverter generators, my Rigid is simply loud, annoyingly loud after a couple of hours, let alone 10 days...

I recall a campground shootout in Montana years ago over a loud generator prompting another camper to put a round thru some guys generator over a dispute over running it late. Â

Karenqc, if you are seriously interested in a power wall (notice, not Solar generator) this is one of the big boys that can really do something for you.
They are not cheap, yet these guys are on technology and have a clue as to what they are doing.
Properly run, only circuits required. can last days. That takes realizing what are important to you.
Google search Power Walls and you see you can also make one for much less the cost. Well, not quite as good, yet good enough to do the deed.
Properly charged, again research this, they can hold there power in reserve for close to a year.
They can be pre-charged from your house power and await the time to use.
To all those looking at these, please do not be mis-lead by their marketing.
Also to all those reading, I still believe you are better server by a quality LP generator.
I think of the KISS principle: Keep It Simple Simon!

That wasn't me... Honest.. I did go and speak to a couple blasting into our Pop-up about the noise. It was Montana (maybe Wyoming..), but really, harsh words only.. And that was only because he said "What noise?" He couldn't hear it from inside his RV.

Briggs on mine, and from the start loud. Two friends have LP units and I've looked them over pretty close. Suppression (muffler) actually looked smaller to me (ever so slightly). Really surprised me and their units are much bigger than mine. Reason I mentioned fuel type as a difference in sound. Never did get around to really sizing, just liked they way they both 'purred' vs. 'yelling' like mine to let me know it's running..
i purchased a 11kw Generac from Home depot in Mayaquez. The sales Rep and home Depot was reluctant to sell to me because he said it needed to be intsalled by a licensed electrician. i informed him i was and had a contractors license. he made every excuse to get HD installers to do it but after i was able to buy with a automatic transfer switch that works perfectly. paid $3500 for it worth
How much did it cost you?
Where you got it?
Did you put it where it gets wet or in some shed to protect it?
Do you use propane, gas or some other fuel?
Do you worry about it being stolen in the night or when away from home?
How long can it run before it needs servicing / oil changes, etc.?
If using propane, how long does it run on a 100 lb tank of propane?
Does it cover the entire house including refrigerator, stove, air conditioners?
Check the specs and reviews on Amazon for the Generac 10KW .

JonWlater that tell me how good it is but does not tell me anything about your experiences with it which is what I asked.
Jon Walter was posting an ad, something we are not supposed to do, Reinaldo? Catch the part where he indicates that it has natural gas hookup, so no refills? That's only on the mainland, we have to refill our tanks, and apparently the natural gas generators are not as efficient as we have been led to believe; many have said they were going through 100lb tanks, in hours, not days!, (natural gas it measured by weight, while petrol is measured by volume; something that is difficult to compare). No; this guy is ad posting!
