garbage collection

spot0023

Probably a dumb question, but in my town on the mainland garbage collection was done by the city water/sewer department and was factored into that bill. I didn't see anything on acueductos about it, and was wondering how it works in PR. (My place is in Luquillo.) Is there a separate entity that I will need to contact to get it set up?

Most towns do not charge for garbage collections. Garbage collection is done by the towns, electric and water utilities belong to the central government. There have been talk about adding a charge to utility bills but I do not believe it ever was approved.

Some started a trash bag purchase program to pay for it after Maria, but not sure what happened, I know a lot of people were very unhappy with it. But it was only 2-4 towns out of the 78 towns that make up PR.
