Banks with high interest rates

TonyFF

Hello,

Can you tell me which Bulgarian bank has high interest for Savings/CD accounts?

I am doing research and I am not finding any.

Do any banks have no fees? ( I have never paid fees for banks - the fees have always been waved).

My impression is that banks are quite predatory in Bulgaria- many fees and almost no interest?????

Here in USA now you can have  now any of the above accounts at 4-6%. You can even get  around 10% on self employment retirement accounts.

I think the only places you will get higher interest is banks you've never heard of.  If your going to have money in Bulgaria  it's to be used for living not investing

"The European Central Bank’s key interest rate will remain at 4% as it opted to pause in October after 10 consecutive hikes." this is quote from today's rates. Why the banks in Bulgaria do not offer that?

No Euro in Bulgaria :(

The US banking market is very different. It's not all that easy to get over 4% in the UK, either, without tying up the money for a set period or going with a bank no one has ever heard of. I'm getting 7% with my bank, but only on a maximum of 3.600 GBP which has to be left in for a year. The main savings account offered by the bank only pays a paltry 2%!

TonyFF

Wow, those are quite a limitations! If you have some money saved get a few of those 7% interest accounts!!!

How dare they have limits like that!

I do not know the European system much, but I know that you can have account in Euro in Bulgaria. So they should have a little higher interest rates like in other countries.

In US you can have CDs ( certificates of deposit) which  freeze the money for certain period. ( interest rate between 4-6 % now) But you can have also HIGH YIELD saving accounts  as I mentioned  with same interest - those accounts are accessible any time. So having one of each is a winner strategy.

I wish those exist in Bulgaria.

Which bank gives highest interest rate in Europe?

The central bank of Hungary set the key interest rate to 13 percent on the 28th of September, making it the highest central bank interest rate in the EU as of September 2023. Bulgaria had the lowest rate at 3.53 percent, although the rate was increased regularly after September 2022.

Interesting news about Hungary.

So as a EU member  can you have a  high yield bank account in Hungary without living there?

The mortgage rates here for 30 years fixed loans  now are about 8.5%. ( It was 2-3.5 % 2 years ago!)

It must be a deal then  to buy  a house in Bulgaria now ( even with a loan) right?

I guess it would be for a Bulgarian. But for foreigners not so much so.

janemulberry

It's hard enough to get a bank account without being legally resident in Bg. I imagine getting a loan as a non-resident would be almost impossible!

SimCityAT

In a lot of countries even if you are a resident you have to build up your credit score.

janemulberry

Right!

TonyFF

My wife is Bulgarian so I presume buying a property  will be no problem with or without a loan.
