Taxi/transport in Veliko Tarnovo

shane dobson

Hi, I'm going to be in VT next week with the intention of viewing a property in Koprivets. Does anybody know of any reputable taxi companies in the area, possibly an English speaker?

There's a company in Sofia where you can hire a car and driver for an hourly rate and would like to know if anyone knows if something similar is available in VT?

If you're here for a viewing trip, I reckon it will be a lot more convenient/flexible (and probably cheaper) to rent a car from Sofia airport for the duration.

I use a limo service to get from Plovdiv to Sofia airport. They have nice cars, and the charge for that trip (about 1.5 hours) is 60 euros. Their name is TrueDrivers (I can give you contact info), and they use Whatsapp (in English) so it's quite convenient. But they're usually point-to-point rather than per day... but you can always ask (won't be cheap though).

Thanks for your reply.
I don't really plan on driving in Bulgaria just yet, I'm a relatively new driver and don't have any experience driving in Europe.
If you could send me the contact details, would appreciate it.

In that case... maybe it's worth considering grabbing a bus/train from Sofia to VT. There's a metro from Sofia airport to the centre and stations.

Then you just need a regular taxi to take you out for the day's viewing.

Or, if you're buying via an agent, they probably have a car and can ferry you around to houses... especially if you pay them a little something.

Ditto if it's an Ebay seller.

Thanks gwynj.

We are arriving in Sofia and getting the bus to VT. Staying in VT overnight then traveling to Koprivets to view the house.
The agent is in VT but hasn't replied to my query regarding taxis / transport.
I'll try them again.
I was hoping that there would be a company like OK taxis from Sofia in VT.

VT has taxis for sure. Maybe Taxi Go (go-taksi.eu)?

Hi,we have been travelling from Sofia to Yambol and find booking .com , always there and reasonable on price..

Shane, I think OK taxis are also in VT. There are definitely licensed taxi companies there. If you do decide to hire a car, we used Kamen Cars who were very helpful. The main issue with hiring a car if you're staying in VT is parking.
I definitely suggest contacting Karen who runs the English language bookshop in Opalchenska Street. It's been a while now since we stayed in VT, but as well as the bookstore she has a lovely studio apartment in Hotnitsa to rent if you need somewhere to stay while you look, plus she will be sure to know a reliable driver service.

Thanks for everyone's help, I appreciate it.

We made the trip and bought the property. I had read several reports of public transport being a bit dicey and about unscrupulous taxi drivers preying on tourists. After visiting the country and using taxis and the bus service, I am pleasantly surprised that I didn't experience anything like I mentioned.

Next time I'm in Bulgaria I won't be worried to use public transport.

Thanks again,

Shane.

Hi shane.

Congratulations with your buy.  Did you buy the house in koprivets (Ruse)?

We have a house in the same village. It would be nice to keep contact .

Hi Sofiew, thanks for your reply. We did buy the house in Koprivets, it's a 2 minute walk from the monastery. It needs attention so we won't be in for a while yet but I'm planning on getting over again later this year. Would be great to get to meet up when we're over. Are you in Bulgaria full time?
