Buying a Car with Temporary Residency

Kykers

Hi all,

What is the procedures of buying a car if you have a temporary residency(Blue Card)?

I have a car but all docs named to my Bulgarian friend. I want to take on me.

A forum mentioned as below but it is weird;

"The Bulgarian legislation allows foreigners to buy cars if they have a permit for temporary or permanent residence in Bulgaria. If you have a permit for temporary residence permit, to issue the purchased car in Sofia. If you have a permanent residence, it is possible to get a car in any city in the country."

Why I need to go to Sofia, isn't it possible to make notary, CAT in Plovdiv?

I don't think the info you quote is correct. I'm pretty sure you can (and should) do it at your local KAT.

Your Bulgarian friend probably knows how car registration works, so you should be able to ask him. You just need to get him to sell/transfer the vehicle (as it's currently in his name) to you. I think you'll need a visit to a notary for the appropriate documentation before spending some happy hours at KAT.

You will find out how much of a friend he is when you ask him to transfer the car to you. :-)

Still waiting my D Visa to get my card, after it we will see.

But when we bought this car, for notary, there was no problem but for CAT, it is really weird. We waited in queue for a long time and they said you can not be change name here and have to go CAT in your residency address or you need to change your residency in your ID card. And after that it costed me 650 Km and one day.

First absurd think is residency is; writing in ID card. Second absurd think is; we have to go CAT in the city of residency. Sometimes I am feeling like in 80s in Bulgaria, but still I am happy:-)(To be happy is the third:-))

Your residence permit here has your home address (as per your notary act or rental contract), and serves as a proof of address as well as an ID card (and evidence of your residence status). This is the address that will then be used on your car registration document, bank account and so on. My card has a Plovdiv address, so I went to the Plovdiv KAT.

Hi Philip,

I found my car in facebook marketplace and bought it. But in Bulgaria everybody needs to be carefull, you have to go with an expert.

Yes I have been told some horror stories ... I'm playing safe and buying a new car, they do all the registering .. I find it cost effective as I just run it into the ground ... Just coming up to 20 years on my current one in UK and it's still goin strong ..

Well thanks for the info about you getting one .. sometimes I get confused with some of the info and rules... Some don't make sense to me so that's when I put the feelers out  :)
