Mobile connectivity in TRNC

juliay

I thought I would share this in case anyone is visiting or moving to TRNC.

Roaming on the Vodafone network (I arrived with a Spanish Vodafone SIM) worked seamlessly. The network was treated as roaming in Türkiye.

I tried an eSIM that supports Vodafone Türkiye and it does not work. When I was near the border, it picked up the Epic network a bit, but couldn’t connect once we got further from the border.

You can get a travel SIM through Telsim (now owned by Vodafone) for cheap, but you need to register your phone’s IMEI after 90 days. This needs to be done at the government office in Lefkoşa and was 225TL for registration and 4,200TL for duties on an iPhone 12 Max Pro.

I’m returning to Spain for a few months before coming back later this summer. If anyone wants me to test roaming through another network, let me know.
