Passport stamping on Cyprus exit

phildraper

The other half flew to the UK on the 3rd Apr 2025 from Paphos. She took her yellow MRC1, her (newly obtained) biometric card and UK passport. As this is the 1st exit after obtaining the biometric card we thought this would be all that was needed to exit but no the boarder guy asked to see the UK passport and MRC1. He then stamped the passport.

I have never had my passport stamped on exit after getting the MRC1 at Paphos airport. Is the stamp in the UK passport because she had the biometric card this time?

I've got biometric card and uk passport and also never had passport stamped in uk and in Cyprus just give them my card and passport and it never gets stamped but I heard that if it gets stamped one way it needs a stamp on return but I think that just passports alone

Phil, I m sure there is a problem if the passport is stamped INWARDS. then it means 90 days only and the stamp must be recinded. Never heard of an outward stamp.

Suggest she speaks with Immigration on her return about the stamp.

My friend faced problems with an inward stamp but he sorted it in days.

They should have never stamped her Passport.

Seems one rule in Paphos and another in Larnaca. Just travelled on my ID to Athens (had Passport with me) and am exiting again on 18th-- see what happens.

Thanks for the responses. I will ask her to seek assistance at Paphos if they stamp on return

I’ve got a UKW3 and always make a point of handing this over to the boarder person first before my passport.

We always bypass the passport scanning machines and hand the biometric card on top of passport to immigration at both paphos/larnaca - never had passport stamped but it was stamped occasionally when we had paper MRC1s

If you have a biometric card you do not need the old yellow/pink slip apart maybe for your own personal records

The stamping of passports has been going on for years now across the whole of the EU, it doesn't happen as much now but still happens.

It was probably the border officer just on autopilot. It will much better when the whole system goes digital and there will be no stamps.
