Revolut Account

stevebillo1

Can anyone tell me if I can keep my Revolut account that was opened in the UK if I move to Cyprus, I have seen some reports that say I can, and others say I would have to close the UK Rev account and then open a new one in Cyprus?

Cheers

All I will say is you DONT need to do anything. let sleeping dogs lie. I will say this much, yes am an oldie in Cyprus-- dont even have a local account. Too much is said by too many.

Let Revolute known your change of address etc as per the norm.

Yes, if/when you become tax resident in Cyprus then you should change your account; the European Revolut bank (registered in Lithuania) is a separate legal "entity" from the UK registered bank.

Having said that, it is a fact that many Brits living in Cyprus do fly under the radar and keep their UK account; but under the new reporting standards, the bank will eventually find out if you are no longer UK tax resident.

Some UK banks are still ok with living abroad  HSBC being one of them... As long as transactions are still legitimately going in and out of the account

Revolut will ask you periodically for your tax residency status and country and will know where your transactions are taking place ..depending on how and where you use your revolut card...

Cheers mate, I wouldn't do anything until I became a Cypriot tax resident anyway ðŸ‘

@Toon

I would only use Revolut to accept money sent to it from my UK bank account, then transfer from revolut to my BOC account, the exchange rate from revolut as you are aware is far better than if sending from a standard UK account

@Toon

Yes, I was aware that HSBC allow this (although I understand that they might try to persuade you to switch to an "offshore" account - but the income and/or savings requirements for that are quite high!)

Nationwide have also informed me that they allow you to keep their accounts.

Can't see any incentive to change to an expat account

You could always open a Wise account when you arrive in Cyprus 😉
