Recognition of foreign qualifications in Finland

Priscilla

Hello everyone,

Were your professional qualifications recognised in Finland? What country did you complete your qualifications in? What profession are you in?

Did you have to go through any formalities to get your qualifications recognised, such as to have them translated?

If your qualifications weren't recognised, were there any additional tests or exams you had to complete before you were able to practice your profession in Finland or continue with your studies?

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

The answer actually depends on what your profession is. In my case, IT, the foreign qualifications are widely recognized as it's not the qualifications that get you the job, but it's the abilities you have. That's if you will ever get the job !

Though at the entrance to the country Finland promises you to have the same rights as a Finnish citizen, when you are hunting for jobs, the reality is just the opposite. Finnish employers are extremely prejudist against foreigners and will not employ you unless they cannot find a Finnish citizen for the required task. Even if you get the job, you will be heavily measured and audited and will find in the center of mobbing regularly.
