School change from Belgium to Scotland

Nickxske

Hello,

As soon as our house in Belgium is sold, we will move to Scotland.
I have a daughter, she is 16. How does the 'switch' go ?
In Belgium you have to go to school until you're 18. So she has no diploma yet. Can she finish High School in Scotland ? How can she get a certificate ?

I looked for answers but it's very different from Belgium. So, can you help me ?  :unsure

Thank you !
Kind regards
Annick

Hi and welcome to the Forum.

To be frank, you've probably chosen the worse possible age for your daughter to switch into the Scottish school system; at her age, she would be starting into what they refer to as the "Highers" programme, which assumes she has finished her "senior phase" in the previous 2 years; I honestly don't know if she will qualify to carry on into the Highers programme.  You can't be the first person to have done this; my advice would be to contact some Scottish schools and see what they can offer.

You say she will have no diploma; at her age, she can legally start work, but with no qualifications or any experience, it will be a low-end warehouse work or shelf-filling in a supermarket.

Hope this helps.
