Hello,

I have owned an apartment in Oviedo since 2015.  I typically spend 3 months a year there and this year will be an extended stay from July 2025 until May 2026.  I am quite familiar with the city.  I'd be happy to answer any questions.

Best Regards,

James

Hello James:

Since you have lived in Oviedo for such a long time, can you recommend nice areas in the city or within 1-2 km of the city center for buying an apartment? Also, how is the area around the main Oviedo train station?

My Spanish language skills are limited right now, but I plan to take lessons. How widely spoken is English in and around Oviedo?

Thanks,

Phil

Hi Phil,

Oviedo is a great town and very pedestrian friendly. We live on Calle San Bernabé that is a pedestrian only street. We are about 5 minutes walking from the train. Around the train station is getting away from the city center. I typically only go out that way for running on the hills. I like being closer to the center. If you put a circle around the Oviedo Cathedral of San Salvador 1-2km you will be in the old part and good areas to live. If you have kids look at Campo de San Francisco and apartments close to their. Are you coming to visit Oviedo soon? I’d be happy to show you around.  Speaking English - you will not have an issue getting around.  If you try to speak a little Spanish the locals will be kind and reveal a little english and you will find you will get through any situation.

Thanks so much for that information - it really helps me starting out on my search. I plan to travel to Oviedo this spring or fall and will try to contact you in advance.

hi James

just read your email to Phil.

we are relocating from southern Spain.

we want to be near schools and facilities, safe areas with hopefully open spaces ( parks).

your opinion about places to look for property woukd be welcome.

HI Barry,

If you are looking at a public school then I would suggest looking for an apartment around Campo de San Francisco.  It's a fantastic large park in the middle of everything and there is a public school across the street.  Everything you need will be in this area.  If you are looking for a private school then the two I am familiar with are both outside the city.

Best of Luck,

James

Hello James:

This is Phil again. I have firmed up plans to visit Oviedo June 17-21. Looks like you  to won't be there until July but just wanted to verify. I should be there again in the fall.

Also, not sure if you can recommend an English-language speaking real estate agent in Oviedo, but if so, that would help. I have been trying to get a response from the real estate agency ReMax Vetusta in Oviedo to see if they have someone I could work with regarding a purchase but they don't respond.

Thanks again,

Phil
