Moving animals from the States to Madrid

Good afternoon! We are moving from the States to Madrid next spring. We have animals that will coming along too. I was wondering what experience you all had, specifically with animals other than cats/dogs (we have 2 birds and a tortoise) but also would love to hear about cats and dogs. We are looking into a pet importer versus doing it ourselves. Any info/experience/advice is welcome!

Not every airport offers to transport animals so hard to help. What would your main airport be in America?
