Sense of humour in Qatar

Bhavna

Hello everyone,

Should we set out to explore QatariÂ’s culture through its sense of humour? Indeed, if one is planning to settle in the country, it is best to understand the cultural codes governing humour in order to avoid any faux-pas.

What is special about the sense of humour in Qatar?

Is it acceptable to joke about any situations?

What is typically funny and what is absolutely not funny?

Are there any popular comedians in Qatar and how would one be able to discover them (stand-up shows, festivals, internet, etc.)?

What is the funniest joke you have heard in Qatar?

Please share your experience,

Bhavna

Qatar is a nice place to visit
People are friendly
It is multicultural and it is allowed to dress any respectable dress. Joking is allowed in terms of fun and respect. Smoking is not allowed in public places and drinking likewise

Qatari people are nice and humble but like any other arab society tgey are conservative on certain issues, number one, you can't joke on persons but rather on situations, number two you cant  speak of women but within limits and as a foreigner man you cant laugh loudly with local women which is considered disrespectfull manner in arab culture,
Number three avoid joking on political figures andbrulers, you may criticize their local culture or joke about it but in a generalized context and to criticize your own culture first. Number four don't laugh or joke when someone is really sad or in a deep problem this is indecent and disrespectful and is taken personally in arab culture
Otherwise you may joke and laugh whatever you want

I have lived in Qatar for more than half of a decade. I will say that Qatar is a lovely place to live in. Security is perfect and crime is almost zero, yes, zero you read me well. Joke? Yeah but with all caution especially when it comes to politics and religion. I avoid these like a plague.
