Cost of living in Saudi Arabia in 2025

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Every year, we invite you to share your experiences with the cost of living in in Saudi Arabia, especially in the region or city you live in. Your insights will greatly help members planning their move to Saudi Arabia or already living there.

Here are some points to guide you; the idea is to provide average prices for each category:

What is the cost of renting or buying an apartment or house in Saudi Arabia?

What are the typical fares for public transportation such as buses, subways, trains, trams, or taxis?

Could you share the average monthly cost of your grocery shopping?

How much does health insurance cost? What is the price of a medical consultation in Saudi Arabia?

What are the tuition fees for children?

What are the average monthly costs for utilities, such as electricity, gas, water, internet, and phone plans?

How much do you spend monthly on leisure activities?

If there are other expenses you find relevant, please feel free to share them!

Thank you for your contribution.

Regarding accommodation, how much does it cost to rent or buy an apartment or a house in Riyadh?

I currently rent a semi furnished 2BR apartment in a compound near to the View mall, for 92k/year inclusive of water which speaking with others is very cheap for Riyadh. Prices are very unstable in Riyadh and it is very common for the rent to increase each year by at least 10% in my case. There are cheaper options outside of compounds however these don't have any facilities such as pool, gym etc.

How much do you pay on average for public transport (bus, subway, train, tram, taxi)?

How much does it cost to fill up your car’s fuel tank?

Never used a local taxi however Uber or similar are easily booked from most places. Buses and the metro are very cheap at 140SAR/month.

To fill up my car (Nissan X-Trail) it costs a maximum 140SAR and will last me roughly 2 weeks thanks to my work being round the corner.

Concerning your food expenses : how much do you pay for basic food items such as rice, bread, and pasta? What is the average price of your monthly food shopping?

Hard to say the breakdown of each item but my weekly shop costs me between 200-400SAR to feed me and my wife. Monthly I would say we spend around 1200SAR on food and other house items we might need.

How much does it cost to have health insurance? How much for a health specialist’s consultation in Riyadh?

My work provides medical cover so I am unsure. I have been told that it is very expensive though if you don't have insurance.

How much does childcare cost on average per month? What about school fees?

Not at that stage in our life yet. smile.png

How much do you pay for electricity, gas, water, internet, mobile’s subscription etc., per month?

Water is included in my rent but electricity is between 50-300SAR/month depending on time of year. I would estimate at roughly that during the summer the combined bill is around 300SAR/month and in the winter as low as 50SAR/month.

Home internet is 300SAR/month

Mobile subscription vary but the package I use is 85SAR/month

Maid Services from 20SAR/hr

Car cleaner 150SAR/month/car

How much do you spend on leisure in Riyadh (cinema, sport, etc)?

Cinema standard tickets are around 35-40SAR ViP is more.
