Advice needed on cities

Makiye

Hi Everyone! I would like to move to Turkey soon, but definitely not Istanbul, while I l loved visiting, it was too crowded. Here is what I am looking for:

1. A city where Islam is more practiced but if I want to go out alone I won't look weird. (am from Los Angeles and quite used to my adventures alone!)

2. Good international schools and an international community

3. Not too crowded, but still has activities to do, especially for kids

So far I am considering Konya, but it seems like there is  not much of an international population, which is a problem for me because I will be moving alone with my daughter and wanted to make some English speaking friends to ''show me the ropes". All your advice is welcome! Thank you and stay safe!

Hi Makiye
I am not sure if you will find city that would practice Islam more than others in Turkey but I may be wrong as I am not local but I have been travelling to Turkey for the last 15 years.
I think the only option for you is Ankara since it has most of your points about schools, foreigners, quality of life as it is not crowded like Istanbul.

I hope that may help to narrow you research and I wish good luck.

Assalamualaiykum

We are also planning to buy a property in three weeks in Konya InshAllah and will be in Konya on the 9/9/20 inshaAllah.

I totally agree with you regarding practicing Islam and modesty is better in Konya.

My wife wears hijab and we live in the UK so will be going back and forth just until we have fully settled in.

Please contact me if you have managed to settle in Konya as yet?

Regards

Hi

I don't think it would be an issue.

Turkish people are very welcoming.

If you are looking for work etc then you are better off in bigger cities.

Good luck

I spent about 6 weeks in Izmir and found it to be more western than the west; best of luck ..

Hi,
You will have not  faced any problems. Turkey and Turkish people are pretty used to seeing foreing people in their round. Esspecially in toursitic cities like, Istanbul,İzmir,Muğla, Antalya etc.
Don't worry about that.
