How do you navigate your expat identity in the Cook Islands?

Anne-Lise Mty

Hey guys in the Cook Islands or wanting to move there,

Fellow expat Stephanie has sent us a piece about how she navigates between her British-ish and her French-ish identity and we thought we would share it with you.

Her opinion piece is featured on our magazine:
Opinion: Does being an expat mean IÂ’ll always be the outsider?

We would love to know what you think!

Happy Thursday,
AL

I answered on the original post because I don't think that answer belonged here in the Cook Islands forum.

Never the less.
In order to become at home there are ingredients to make a successful recipe.

1. Acclimate to your new country, it's people, culture, social rules and language. If you are not willing to do that. Dont even leave, stay home.

2. Remember and remind yourself what were the things in your new country that attracted you to choose that place.

3. Remember and remind yourself what were the things in your old country that made you leave it.

4. The friendliness and openness of the people of the country, region, city you have chosen will of course play a big part.
