Hotels in Rio during Carnaval

ibdegen

I realize this may be an impossible request, but my adult kids are coming to visit during Carnaval. They will be staying with me most of the time in Niteroi, but they want to stay in Rio during the three days of mayhem. Does anyone have recommendation(s) for an inexpensive hotel, preferably in Copacabana or Ipanema, that might still have availability?

TIA

Carnival + Ipanema/Copacabana + inexpensive hotel = error message

@ibdegen Well you came to the right place. My Niteroi to Rio connection is about 30 to 40 years ago, but I can still help you. So my Brazilian mother that my father married after my natural mother passed is from Niteroi. I would often take the trip from Niteroi to Rio for fun in my young adult days.聽 Of course, in those days it was Cruzados for my spending money and the HELP nightclub in Rio for fun...both of which do not exist anymore.聽 I am not so sure about the JUMBO CAT which was an off the water James Bond like boat that would make the trip to Rio from Niteroi in seven minutes.

As far as staying in Rio, I actually rented an apartment for a week about a block from Copacabana. I am sure those are still around. There may be an extra charge during Carnaval, but I am sure it will be less than a name-brand hotel during that time. Good Luck, Stay Safe.

Could you please define "inexpensive"?聽 I went last February and I stayed at the Miramar by Posto 5.聽 It was a good experience and I really liked it esp. because the hotel sponsored a band to play for the whole week.聽 I got to get a first hand view of how the band prepared and played.

However, if you don't like hotels, I noticed that there were many apartments on Av. Atlantica that were dark for the whole time.聽 I guess that if you have a contact who can let you use one of those empty apartments, I would not be surprised that this would be very affordable.

However, be aware that things will be more crazy., busy, and more expensive than normal... I also noticed that bills came with an automatic 20% tip added....

But, I do not regret going...Once in a lifetime....

@ibdegen, @Pablo888 is correct, there are plenty of apartments on Avenue Atlantica. If you are actually in Niteroi and can cross to Rio, there was a cafe on Cocacabana where the English Speaking 草榴社区s would hang out. I am sure they would be more helpful than we could or by using the Brazilian version of Angie. You would be surprised what people who actually are there could tell you.
