Pico y Placa -- Driving restrictions in 2022

cccmedia
Restrictions eased in Quito.

Motorists in Quito were restricted from driving their vehicles last year, 2021, two days a week.

Now, in 2022, each car is restricted on just one day a week.  They may not circulate legally in the designated areas of the capital during the most-trafficked hours of the day and evening.

The restriction day depends on the final number of any vehicle's license plate.

If the plate ends with a 1 or 2, the vehicle is restricted on Mondays.

Ends in 3 or 4, it's restricted on Tuesdays.

Ends in 5 or 6, it's restricted on Wednesdays.

Ends in 7 or 8, it's restricted on Thursdays.

Ends in 9 or 0, it's restricted on Fridays.

The 'circulación' restrictions do not affect motorists driving on Saturdays or Sundays.

If Tránsito stops a vehicle for violating Pico y Placa rules, the violator is subject to a fine of over $200 and the vehicle is subject to confiscation de inmediato.
