Initial Trip To Cuenca

rickheysquierdo

Hi Folks:

I'll be making my second trip to Cuenca this December to familiarize myself with the difference neighborhoods and parts of town.
I'd like to meet up with some ²ÝÁñÉçÇøs to discuss their experiences and what areas are best to rent/own in Cuneca.

What are your suggestions for Airbnb or Hotel's in the Historic area of Cuenca?
What about Cell Phone usage with my current USA - ATT phone?

Kind Regards,

Rick Heysquierdo

Hi Rick,

You cannot use your ATand T Cell here.. unless you have an international plan.. but here you can use the Claro chip and switch it out and buy minutes to use your phone in Ecuador,, and when you go back, put your AT and T chip back in and you are good to go.

Unless you want to pay roaming charges, you will want to put a chip from an Ecuadorian carrier.   Your phone needs to be a GSM phone and Unlocked.   Most AT&T phones are GSM, and you can get an unlock code if you meet certain criteria. I would call and ask them if you can unlock it.

Thank you Nards - are you in Cuenca?

Yes, I am.  And if an unlock code is not available from AT&T, one of the many cellular shops might be able to do it for you.

Also, you might consider buying a cheap, unlocked GSM phone for your trip which you can always keep around as a backup if you move to Ecuador.

Here is one that I own as a backup that can be purchased new from Ebay for $35
