Procedure to work in Belgium

Sara mina

Hi everyone,

I recently received a job offer from a Belgian company, and they want me to start by September. I currently have a valid Italian student visa. Could someone advise on the exact procedure to switch my student visa to a work visa and how long this process typically takes? Any tips for a smooth transition would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sara,

I suppose you have a valid D type of visa where issued an Italian embassy.

First of all this makes you free movement in EU. But no work anywhere.

Procedure:

  • Your future employer  will apply a Work Permit for you in Belgium.(You will be asked some documents)
  • When your work permit approved you will receive it and you can come to Belgium with your current Visa D
  • Otherwise need to apply a Belgium Embassy in abroad whereever you were to obtain a valid Visa D
  • Upon arrival in Belgium, you will be registered in municipality with mutualiteit, rental contract and will wait for resident card.

Good luck

@maharaji1984 Thank you so much for your reply. Could you please tell how much time this procedure could take? and if I will need only a permit of work or what they call a single permit?

Thank you in advance

You are most welcome.

From application to get your Residence Card could take up to 7 months. But of course you can start to work earlier ( When your Work Permit is approvedand you have registered in Municipality)  Please check posts under this link :
