Any Younger Folks Here in Oslo?

rachaelivy

Hey Everyone!
My name is Rachael, I'm here with my husband in Oslo while my visa is being processed. I previously lived just north of Seattle, Washington before moving here last April. I'm going to be 20 years old this summer so I was wondering if there was anyone on the forums who was around my age? Just curious :)

I'm 25. I like to think that's not too old :P

Whats the age limit LOL

If you're twenty five, then this is now your fourth decade on earth.  Now that's a frightening thought.

How young is young and how old is old? All I know even if the person is 81 (I am still far from this age, don't be so scared) as long as s/he is keen to learning, humble to seek advice and has the courage to admit his faults s/he is still young. As oppose to someone who is full of himself and see that s/he knows everything becomes old already even though s/he is just 18.

It's just my personal view. Friendship knows no bound.

I think everyone in this thread is sort of missing my point. I'm not saying I'm not friends or won't be friends with older people than me, the friends I have here now are all older. My whole point was to meet someone my own age because 1) I can't really go out to most bars like most meet ups are held and 2) I'd like to have friends my own age going through the same things after being around older people my entire time here.

I don't think all 18 year olds are full of themselves and know everything, I'd like to meet some expat 18 year olds here to see how they're going through the process of being in a new country at such a young, vulnerable age like I am. Sort of my point by starting this thread, but apparently that has been misconstrued. Sorry if I offended anyone by "insulting your age" or excluding you; I just wanted to see if there were others similar to myself.

Why not?

You're old enough to go to a pub.

rachaelivy

Yeah, pubs, but not where liquor is sold. Most of the meetups have been where liquor is sold. It sucks.

Unless there is some sort of trans-atlantic misunderstanding, you will be pleased to know that liquor is also sold in pubs.

rachaelivy

Well since I'm not 20 I'm not allowed to be in places where liquor is sold. I'm allowed to go to pubs where only beer is sold. It's always been my knowledge that pubs are beer-only.

That sounds very unusual.  Some clubs and pubs do have an age limit, but that tends to be set by the management.  I'm pretty sure, too, that the law is about the purchase of alcohol, not being in the same place or even drinking it.

In any case, I'm quite sure you can go to a pub, and if your "friends" say that they want to go to a club, a gentle reminder that you aren't of age would probably be enough to change their minds, and you can trott off to the pub.

I think the last Oslo meetup was in a pub.

Thanks!

Hello! I'm 25. Guess I qualify as one of the younger folks?

Rachael, I know what you were talking about in regards to the bar/pub situation. I remember visiting Norway when I was about 18, which is the legal drinking age for all alcoholic beverages where I'm from. So one night I thought I'd go out and have a drink. Apparently, I'd walked into the wrong bar (liquor-serving) and was subsequently "escorted" out by a giant of a viking!

By the way, It's been quite a while since I was last here. What's a good place to go for a drink in Oslo these days?
