Using a Container for Turkey

Does anyone have information about using a container to take possessions to Turkey,Antalya.

I don't have specific information but I do know it is costly.  During my most recent visits to Turkey, I pay for extra checked in bags to haul books, clothing and LPs to Turkey.  I will be packing up my desktop, laptop and as much as I can on my final flight to Turkey when moving.  All of my furnishings for my home in Turkey will be purchased locally i.e. appliances, TVs, furniture, kitchen, bedding & bathroom accessories etc.  I believe most people take a similar approach when moving.  BTW, I hope to be moving next year hopefully sometime in spring of 2025.


Initially, I started to research moving companies but they are costly, I can't remember any cost figures but the logistics, customs and cost swayed me to my current plans.  It may be a different scenario for British expats but for US citizens, it is cost prohibitive.


I would suggest googling "Top container shipping companies" or "Top cargo airlines" should this be your only option.  There is a wealth of information in the search results.  Here is a for ocean & air freight as well as courier services to get you started.  Use the drop down menu under "services".  Also, there is a shipping calculator under "resources".

I do not know about containers, we did not bother to bringing our car, but moving from Hungary we had to declare things (fine), the company we hired in Hungary was very fine, but a lot of bureaucracy to deal with (and some taxes)

The moving company was quite well prepared, but still in Turkey also some taxes were due (we spent at least 6  hours to declare items). It is not so much about the money (a few hundred EURO). The moving comapany is the biggest thing (a few EUR 1000 , but good service though (in hindsight we should have taken much more)

What we took

-Computers/laptops

-Paintings

-Some books

-Official documents

-As a side note (passport, and other offical things in handluggage)

-Clothes (leaving behind winter clothes in Hungary, what we sometimes regret)


We downsized a bit, hence the limited items taken.


Message, please make sure you you have proper support when moving our but also in.

I intend to do the same.  It's too much of a hassle to hire a freight company, load a container, go thru customs and then have it transported, from the port, inland another 5 to 6 hours.  So far, I've  taken a large part of my library of books, my long play records and my T-shirts during my visits to °Õü°ù°ì¾±²â±ð. I will I'll be purchasing all of my home furnishings and accessories in °Õü°ù°ì¾±²â±ð as well as supplementing my clothing.  This is the least hassle and least costly strategy for me.  Besides, I can tailor my furnishings purchases to best match my apartment size and style.

Admittedly we took personal items (paintings, some books, PC's., clothes (stilll underestimating winter in Turkey) ..) Probably far too little, I regret not taken some things.

Still even from Hungary things can become expensive (custom duties, transport company, local support) and create quite some stress.

Furniture, TV, bed things (I am no specialist), iron for washing, all these small things we bought here (good price by the way).

Moving is expensive, taxes, tickets, companies, support, ...
